'The Palms' is the most significantly mixed commercial development to come to the Gorey market.

The Palms Centre Gorey Co WexfordThe development occupies a prominent site on The Avenue. It is just off the town's Main Street and straight across the road from the Post Office.

The new Civic Centre for the town (which is proposed to house the local government offices, court house, library and Garda Station) is being constructed adjacent to 'The Palms'.

In addition, the new Dunnes Stores Shopping Centre has just opened at the opposite end of The Avenue.

The plan is to have a pedestrian walkway from the Shopping Centre, through the Civic Centre to The Avenue (passing 'The Palms') and on to the Main Street.

Therefore, 'The Palms' will occupy a pivotal location for both retail and offices in the town.

How It Began

The Palms Centre rejuvenates  upper Gorey. It houses a mixture of Medical, Commercial and Retail unit in a purpose built block.

Gorey Ireland Dateline...The Palms Centre, located at the top of the Avenue in Gore, has opened its doors to bring a range of quality services to the local community. The new development, which covers some 40,000 square feet, commenced building in 2006 and first opened its doors in July 2008.

The multimillion investment was not without its difficulties. As Dr Sean Nixon (owner and developer) explained: "We had the vision to create a vibrant centre which would provide a one-stop-shop for Gorey citizens looking for traditional medical assistance as well as complementary services.

As architect Michael Molloy explains, the building has a contemporary design that compliments the Councils' vision for The Avenue.  "It was important to have a clean design which would compliment the Civic Centre which is currently under construction some 50 metres away.

A mix of Limestone, Cedarwood and Tinted Glass was used to give a light but sympathetically imposing feel to the building.  It was always important that the building had to look and feel like  a Commercial Centre.

"No expense was spared by Dr Nixon in allowing me to select the highest quality materials for external and internal finishing, from state of the art wheelchair accessible lifts on all floors to stone cladding imported from China.

Dr Nixon and his wife Anne deserve much credit for never compromising on quality when it was presented as an option.  This is a rare quality in a development of such cost and size whereby normally developers insist on the cheapest option possible.  However, investing in quality design always pays dividends with regard to attracting tenants and the longevity of the structure".

The integration of the old surgery with the new building was a challenge, as Molloy explains:  " It was always going to be risky and tricky given the differences in the two structures, however it was carried out seamlessly and the building is now working the way it was intended which is a credit to all involved.

Special credit needs to be given to Warrenhill Contractors Ltd whom, led by Dick Conroy and Pat Gregan, handled every problem and obstacle with ease to bring the project to a conclusion on time and on budget".

Nathan Kayley, Manager for the centre, believes the mixture of Commercial and Retail units provides a good balance for the upper half of Gorey.  "Retail tenants have good access to footfall along the main street while it is a desirable location for office space with cafes and shops in abundance n the area."

The Avenue is a prime location in Gorey and it is currently undergoing major re-development.  Gorey's new Civic Centre, just metres away from The Palms Centre, is due to open at the end of May this year.  The Civic Centre will provide parking for 250 cars and it will be home to the new Local Council buildings.

"We also have a purpose built Conference Centre and Training Facility which is currently been used by FAS to provide computer training.

This facility is available not only to tenants in the building, but also to external businesses.  Again, this extra detail renders The Palms Centre a bonus to the area in terms of facilities and services."

The Palms Centre boasts the Medical Centre with Car Parking , Grants Pharmacy, HAB Design Studio, a Freight Shipping Company, Chinese Medicine Supplies, Counselor, law Plus Solicitors, Baby Shop, Health and Beauty Salon, Spec Express and opening in the near future, a World Cusine Restaurant. Gorey is one of the most prosperous towns in the South East. A vibrant market town many of the major retailing chains, such as Tescos, Dunnes Stores, Heatons, 4Home, Lidl and Aldi are already well established.

With the constant improvements to the M50 and N11, including the recently opened Gorey By-Pass, the town now forms an integral part of the Dublin commuter belt. Indeed, the town and its environs have experienced major population growth in recent years (43% increase in the last census) and significant further growth anticipated.

In addition, Gorey benefits from a population explosion during the summer months when the nearby coastal resorts (such as Courtown and Ballymoney) swell with holiday makers.

The Palms Centre Gorey is a modern building incorporating glass and natural looking stone to create a sophisticated environment for the mix of businesses in this exciting and cosmopolitan environment.
